Its two-part body, long straight tail, and additional appendages can be fished intact for a larger presentation or trimmed down when crappie and other fish demand something more subtle.

Start with the complete Hornet when fish are active and willing to commit to a larger profile. When the bite turns finicky, remove the top body section and arms or trim appendages from the tail to streamline the presentation without changing plastics. The 1-inch version can be threaded onto a sub-5 mm tungsten jig for hard-water panfish, while either size can be jigged or fished beneath a float in open water. The larger 2-inch Hornet has also been featured on Sportsman's Journal TV for deep-water crappie.
The Hornet has more behind its name than a military theme. Freedom Baitz named the finished design after the F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet, carrying the veteran-owned company's military-inspired tradition into a bait built around versatility and adjustment on the water.
